Grade 11 Portfolio Project Requirements

Grade 11 Portfolio Project Requirements

Academic Preparation

Teachers have collaborated and planned to provide students with opportunities to demonstrate each characteristic in the Profile of an Awsaj Graduate (see p. 3) during this year. Students must choose one assignment or test from each category on their Grade Level Guide (see Appendix A) to include in their portfolio.

Students in Grade 11 are required to take the IELTS exam at least once this year and include their results in their Portfolio. They are also expected to take either the ACT (the Residual version if they plan to study in Qatar) or the SAT if they want to study in the US, and include a copy of their results in their Portfolio.

Students will also select at least one university and/or one employer to which they plan to apply before graduation. They will include a typed list of their choices and their reasons for selecting them in their portfolio. The list should also include a summary of application deadlines and (for universities) admissions requirements for international students (e.g. minimum IELTS score, minimum ACT score, minimum GPA, minimum average grade percentage or GPA, recommendation letters, etc.).

Career Development

Awsaj Academy has several corporate partners who provide internships for every student in Grade 11. These internships occur during the month of June, and they may be between 2 weeks and 4 weeks long. Awsaj staff will make every effort to find an internship aligned to each student’s interests.

During the internship period, students are expected to arrive early at their internship sites and spend up to 8 hours each day on-site (including up to one hour for lunch). Students should keep a daily journal of how they spent their time and how they felt about each activity. This daily journal will help them learn from the internship experience.

At the end of the internship, students will be expected to submit this journal to their humanities teacher for academic credit.

Students must also update their CV / resume and resubmit it in this year’s portfolio.

Service

Students in Grade 11 are required to complete 20 hours of community service during this school year. They may complete this community service at any organization, including Awsaj Academy.

To receive credit for their volunteer hours, students must submit a log which indicates dates and hours worked (see Appendix B). Each entry on the log must be signed by the person who supervised that particular volunteer time.
